Guruvayoor Kesavan

Photobucket

it was one of the majestic elephant which served the Lord in all its sincerity and uniqueness. Valiya Raja of Nilambur once prayed to the Lord to save his family and property from the enemies attack. He promised to offer one of his many elephants if his wish is fulfilled. His wish was fulfilled and he offered an elephant which later became the famous Guruvayur Kesavan.

GURUVAYUR DEVASWOM On his arrival, Kesavan was 10 years old and elephant Padmanabhan was the undisputed king. Young Kesavan acquired all the kingly gestures and nobleness of Padmanabhan and even excelled him. He would bend his front-legs only before those who holds Lord's Thidambu to enable them to climb upon him, all others were to climb by his behind-legs. He never caused any bodily harm to anyone. He sometimes was called "Lunatic Kesavan", but never spoiled any sanctity. Even if he became wild outside Guruvayur, he would straightaway come to Guruvayur, go round the temple and stood where he used to be chained.

In 1973, first time in history, the Golden Jubilee of the services of an elephant to the temple was celebrated. Kesavan was conferred upon the honour of "GAJARAJAN" (king of elephants ).

GURUVAYUR DEVASWOM However, on famous Ekadasi day, 2nd December 1976, Kesavan fell ill while Thidambu was placed on his head. He couldn't hold on his legs. The Thidambu was soon transferred to another elephant and Kesavan was brought to the Kovilakam compound. He died in front of the Lord with his trunk stretched in front. He was 72, 3.2metres tall, and participated in every ceremony at the temple.Kerala's biggest and grandest elephant, Gajarajan Kesavan, served the Lord and people for the long 54 years. Who have seen him will never forget Kesavan. To commemorate him, a 12 feet high statue has been erected in front of Sreevalsam rest house.

Tobacco kills....sharukh ,do u know that?

Photobucket
In recent weeks we all have witnessed verbal exchanges between our health minister A.Ramadoss and sharukh khan about the issue of on screen & public smoking by the latter.sharukh categorically denied any sort of influence on youth by his smoking and he tend to use creativity as shield to defend the minister who is pursuading all known south and north film stars to quit smoking in films.Rajanikanth, mohanlal aamir khan and many others agreed to quit smoking in their films ....then why only sharukh ?

Tobacco is the second major cause of death in the world. It is well known that half the people who smoke regularly today – about 650 million people – will eventually be killed by tobacco. Equally alarming is the fact that hundreds of thousands of people who have never smoked die each year from diseases caused by breathing second-hand tobacco smoke.
As per WHO statistics, tobacco consumption is increasing in the developing world and India and South Asia have the highest incidence of oral cancer. India has a serious problem with tobacco chewing. While tobacco is consumed in several ways - by smoking cigarettes and bidis, chewing gutkha, khaini or mishri or by sniffing, it is the ghutka problem which is endemic.

WHO statistics show that of the 400 million Indians aged 15 years and over, 47 percent use tobacco in one form or the other. The trend of the young taking to smoking is particularly disturbing as research has shown that people who start smoking in their teenage years run a higher risk of turning into life-long smokers.“Six thousand children are recruited into the tobacco habit every day in India,” points out Dr Almel.(A wide angle view of india)

Smoking kills 900,000 people every year in India, and unless corrective action is taken soon that number will increase to 1 million smoking-related deaths annually by 2010 and beyond, according to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine and conducted by scientists from India, Canada and the UK.(larry's blog)
Studies indicate that one million (2500 a day) are dying in India because of tobacco usage. Pictorial warnings will especially discourage the illiterates from using tobacco, feel the activists.

"Asia has been in the forefront of issuing pictorial warnings. And there has not been any public opposition so government (in India) need not worry," said Dr Judith Mackay of World Lung Foundation.
Dr Douglas Bettcher, director, Tobacco Free Initiative, World Health Organisation throws the light on the world scenario, "The WHO estimates that approximately five million people die each year from tobacco use. If current trends continue, this figure will reach 10 million per year by 2030, with 70 per cent of those deaths occurring in developing countries like India." And Dr Mackay warns, "India is losing 900,0000 jobs a year due to dying smokers." Hence, it's not just the environment but the economy too is at a risk.(The times of india)

Living on solar energy...Heera ratan manek!!!

hira ratan manek

Unbelievable!!!....a man living purely on solar energy. Its not a joke.He is living without food for the last 10+ years.Occasionally he takes coffee or drinks water.Hira Ratan Manek was born on 12th of September 1937 in Bodhavad, India, was raised in Calicut, Kerala, India, where he had his Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Kerala. After graduation, he joined the family shipping and spice trading business and continued working there until he retired in 1992.

After working on this method for 3 years after retirement, he was able to re-discover the secrets of sun gazing. During his study, he was mainly inspired from the teachings of Lord Mahavir of Jains, who was also practicing this method two thousand and six hundred years ago. Other inspirations for sungazing came from ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Native Americans.

Since June 18th, 1995, HRM has and continues to live only on sun energy and water. Occasionally, for hospitality and social purposes, he drinks tea, coffee and buttermilk. Until now, he had three strict fastings, during which he had just sun energy and only water and was under the control and observation of various science and medical teams.
The first of these fasting lasted for 211 days during 1995-96 in Calicut, India directed by Dr. C.K. Ramachandran, a medical expert on allopathy and ayurvedic medicine.

This was followed by a 411 day fast from 2000-2001 in Ahmedabad, India directed by an International team of 21 medical doctors and scientists led by Dr. Sudhir Shah (Dr. Shah's synopsis report) and Dr. K. K. Shah, the acting President of Indian Medical Association at that time. Dr. Maurie D. Pressman, MD also describes his experience with HRM in an article he wrote and later joined the team for the next observation on HRM.

After the excitement of the findings at Ahmadabad, HRM was invited to Thomas Jefferson University and University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia where he underwent a 130 day observation period. This Science/Medical Team wanted to observe and examine his retina, pineal gland and brain, therefore this observation team was led by Dr. Andrew B. Newberg, a leading authority on the brain and also featured in the recent movie "What the Bleep Do We Know", and by Dr. George C. Brenard, the leading authority on the pineal gland. Initial results found that the gray cells in HRM's brain are regenerating. 700 photographs have been taken where the neurons were reported to be active and not dying. Furthermore, the pineal gland was expanding and not shrinking which is typically what happens after mid fifties and its maximum average size is about 6 x 6 mm, however for HRM, it has been measured to be at 8 x 11 mm.

RAJA Ravi varma paintings

Raja Ravi Varma (1848-1906) was born in Kilimanoor Palace as the son of Umamba Thampuratti and Neelakandan Bhattathiripad. At the age of seven years he started drawing on the palace walls using charcoal. His uncle Raja Raja Varma noticed the talent of the child and gave preliminary lessons on painting. At the age of 14, Ayilyam Thirunal Maharaja took him to Travancore Palace and he was taught water painting by the palace painter Rama Swamy Naidu. After 3 years Theodor Jenson, a British painter taught him oil painting.

Most of Ravi Varma's paintings are based on Hindu epic stories and characters. In 1873 he won the First Prize at the Madras Painting Exhibition. He became a world famous Indian painter after winning in 1873 Vienna Exhibition.

Very Interesting And Thought Provoking .....

One day all the employees reached the office and they saw a big advice on the door on which it was written: "Yesterday the person who has been hindering your growth in thiscompany passed away. We invite you to join the funeral in the room that hasbeen prepared in the gym". In the beginning, they all got sad for the death of one of their colleagues, but after a while they started getting curious to know who was that man who hindered the growth of his colleagues and the company itself. The excitement in the gym was such that security agents were ordered tocontrol the crowd within the room. The more people reached the coffin, the more the excitement heated up. Everyone thought: "Who is this guy who was hindering my progress? Well,at least he died!". One by one the thrilled employees got closer to the coffin, and when they looked inside it they suddenly became speechless. They stoodnearby the coffin, shocked and in silence, as if someone had touched the deepest part of their soul. There was a mirror inside the coffin: everyone who looked inside it could see himself. There was also a sign next to the mirror that said:"There is only one person who is capable to set limits to your growth: it is YOU. You are the only person who can revolutionize your life. You are the only person who can influence your happiness, your realization and yoursuccess. You are the only person who can help yourself. ......Your life does not change when your boss changes, when your friends change, when your parents change, when your partner changes, when your company changes. Your life changes when YOU change, when you go beyond your limiting beliefs, when you realize that you are the only one responsible for your life. "The most important relationship you can have, is the one you have withyourself" Examine yourself, watch yourself. Don't be afraid of difficulties, impossibilities and losses: be a winner, build yourself and your reality. The world is like a mirror: it gives back to anyone the reflection of the thoughts in which one has strongly believed. The world and your reality are like mirrors laying in a coffin, which show to any individual the death of his divine capability to imagineand create his happiness and his success. It's the way you face Life that makes the difference ....Have a nice days

My heart goes to BARACK OBAMA but my mind tells me to stick on with HILLARY CLINTON.Folks ,iam thinking as an Indian living in India. He is charismatic, intelligent and young, capable of moving masses. But she is experienced, brilliant and great perfectionist.Iam no different to young people in America who loves, respects and wants to bring "CHANGE" through a change of existing political equations. But my mind goes to India and its future. My mind asks me "who will be India's best friend?"...the answer is ...Hillary NOT Obama. Moreover US economic regression can affect indian economy too.Hillary have more aggressive plans to secure the sagging economy.Still i can't resist the passion and thrills Obama fills in me...my heart goes to............

Palace on wheel.......Deccan odyssey....Golden chariot...

Palace on wheel.......Deccan odyssey....Golden chariot.....This sounds like "AMAR AKBAR ANTONY"...one of the blockbuster movie of 1980's..dont get confused with my utopian comparisons. They are new face of indian state tourism promotion, especially aiming at "NON RESIDENT INDIANS".They all three, are luxury trains(5 star facilities)running across india connecting many tourist attractions.Palace on wheel(Rajasthan),Deccan odyssey(maharashtra)and Golden chariot(karnataka)provides aunforgettable experience to the passengers interms of luxury and convenience.

If Europe is all-hearts for the Orient Express and Rajasthan is graced by the royal Palace on Wheels,Deccan Odyssey Train Tour Maharasthra echoes majestically with the Deccan Odyssey. The weeklong Deccan Odyssey tour includes several exotic destinations covering the vast expanse of Maharashtra and a pinch of Goa - Mumbai, Ganpatipule, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Goa, Pune, Aurangabad, Ajanta and Ellora.see for informations at "Deccan odyssey"
"Golden chariot" is the latest in the series. It didnt start its journey yet,but planning to connect important tourist attractions in karnataka state. Each compartment carries the name of famous dynasties who ruled the state.watch the news clip about the "Golden chariot" below
